A welcome message from the founder of the Slow Food Oxon Convivium

What started as a "Slow Food Lunch" back in January 2004, when I first was introduced to the movement, has now turned into one of the largest Convivia in the UK - Slow Food Oxon. I was at the annual Soil Association conference in Edinburgh and local food producers were invited to display and offer their wonderful produce to Conference delegates. One could learn everything about Scotland's foods, resources, traditions and culture just by walking along the tables bursting with delicious produce and by talking to the proud producers.

At that point I decided to come back to Oxfordshire and launch a local Slow Food Convivium. In July 2004 five co-founders met to sign the Slow Food Protocol and register officially. Ever since, we have been gaining new members at an impressive rate and now we boast more than 70 members from Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties.

For me, Slow Food is also "local food", "organic food", and "traditional food". It means going back to the origins of food and cooking and finding pleasures at the table, with your family. It is also a wonderful way of spending my free time, socializing and making new friends, who, like me, are passionate about food.

We welcome everybody to our events, encourage guests to join the movement and try to involve all members in organising events and designing the plan of activities for the year.

Have a look at our Events List and see when you would like to come along. If you would like to attend an event or ask specific questions about Slow Food, please e-mail me at leader@slowfood-oxon.org.uk.

With my Slowest and Warmest Wishes,
